What is Film with Orchestra?

Film with Orchestra takes your favourite films and has an orchestra play the score live whilst you watch the film. It is the perfect way to indulge that epic drama, romance, or sci-fi thriller.

How though does it work?

Our technical directors use a playback system to ensure that the orchestra have a monitor system which is synched with the film. This involves some wizardry and a time code which keeps everything in synchronisation. However, that’s the easy bit. The next stage is getting the conductor of the orchestra to conduct the orchestra with absolute-millisecond precision so that the music isn’t out of time with what’s going on in the film. This then becomes even more difficult when the orchestra has to play along to actors that might be singing on screen live. All a massive testament to how skilled the technical directors, musicians and conductor all have to be.

What films can you see?

The list is endless! Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Home Alone, the Bond films, Gladiator, Titanic and on and on. If it has a great score and it is a great film, then chances are it is available in a format for the ‘film with orchestra’ treatment!
